Difference Between Dell Business and Home Laptops

Like most business-grade computers, the Dell XPS features a basic, no-frills appearance with rugged construction. Unlike Alienware computers, the Dell XPS is not intended to be flashy or strikingly designed. While Full HD+ XPS machines can get decent battery life, they can’t hold a candle to the longest-lasting Latitudes. You’ll find larger batteries in certain Latitude laptops, and the low-power displays mentioned above contribute to some of the longest battery life you’ll find.

There’s a wide range of keyboards available on Dell XPS and Latitude laptops, and some are better than others. Since most business tasks don’t benefit so much from rich color, the Latitude line aims at offering features like low-power panels rather than high resolutions and creative-level colors support. If you’re looking for solid productivity performance, either the XPS or Latitude lines will meet your needs. If you’re looking for running more demanding tasks like video editing, then the XPS 15 or 17 will be more up your alley.

The Inspiron starts at very affordable prices (under $200), making it a clear choice if you’re looking for a web-browsing laptop that doesn’t cost more than a tablet. But at the top end, it offers competent office-level performance. The XPS line, by comparison, is higher end, appealing to those with graphic processing needs or even a little entry-level gaming.

That’s a feature aimed directly at business users, who are likely to spend time on the road and thus demand long battery life. The XPS range is clearly Dell’s performance line, at least when compared to the Latitudes. Both brands are all-in on Intel’s 11th-gen CPUs, but outside of the Latitude 5521, all of Dell’s business-class laptops are built around Intel U-series processors. While the XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 use U-series CPUs exclusively, the XPS 15 and 17 offer H-series processors.

Note that the XPS line comes with a one-year warranty while the higher-end Latitude machines come with 3-year warranties. In short, Dell have a few brands like Alienware (Gaming PC & Lappy), Vostro (SMB PC & Lappy), Precision (workstation & mobile workstation), XPS (advanced SMB & home lappy), Inspirion (Home PC & lappy), Latitude & Optiplex . You can allegedly purchase the same warranties with them, but I have discovered the For Home warranty support, which by the way, costs the same, would be better with trained monkeys on the phone. The machine that had to go back to depot wouldn't turn on. I spent almost half an hour with an untrained first line monkey (sorry simians - you're all smarter than this individual was) who kept trying me to go into the pre-boot diagnostics when the machine wouldn't even turn on. I also write and edit for a variety of other businesses across many subjects including small business and marketing. The purpose of these laptops is only to perform normal tasks as their durability is low.
